This morning in Hollywood nominations were announced for the 2014 Academy Awards.It's not much of a surprise that Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity and David O. Russell's American Hustle received 10 nominations apiece when nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced this morning in Hollywood. Director Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave was not far behind, receiving 9 nominations.
Nominated for Best Picture are Gravity, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Her, Nebraska, 12 Years a Slave, The Wolf of Wall Street, Philomena, and Nebraska.
Best Actor nominations went to: Christian Bale (American Hustle), Bruce Dern (Nebraska), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club).
Best Actress nominations went to: Amy Adams (American Hustle), Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena), and Meryl Streep (August: Osage County).
There were a few serious snubs this year, too. Oprah Winfrey (The Butler), Robert Redford (All Is Lost), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), were all passed over for acting nods, while neither the latest Coen Brothers film, Inside Llewyn Davis, nor August: Osage County, based on Tracy Letts' Pulitizer Prize-winning play, received a nomination for best film.
