‘Why the crackdown in China?’ by Steven Mosher: – (I always find it interesting to read about the Church in China, and this article is no exception. I still recall the first video I saw of the underground Church in the late 80’s and how challenged I was by the faith I witnessed among our Oriental family. As always we need to pray for the Church universa,l and China remains in need of our goodwill, having been hard-hit by recent and repeated persecution. We must pray too for inspiration among our leaders, that they would seek to resolve the lengthy dispute over appointments to the episcopacy and the involvement of the Chinese government. One thing is certain (according to Scripture) and that is that God does not want "politicians" or "yes men" leading His Church but those who are surrendered to Him the King of kings and Lord of lords. While I enjoyed Steven’s piece, his statement,
"But the reason why the number of Protestants in China is growing far faster than the number of Catholics is that the Church demands so much more of its members" does not rest completely well with me, not only because I am not entirely sure as to whether we really do require "so much" more of our members but mainly because I believe Christ places very little burden upon those who come to Him. St. Paul puts it this way
"Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law," and I am inclined to agree. While we share the richness of our Christian heritage with those who come to us we should never underestimate how God is able to move among those who have received even a morsel of His teaching, for in some regions of the earth that is all that is available. The growing numbers of Chinese Christians, Catholic and non-Catholic is, I believe, a source of great hope for that land and I long to one day hear stories of how communities and regions have been transformed by the love of God at work in our brothers and sisters).

"Women equal to men? No way!" –  Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey. (Erdogan is a "great friend" of Barack Obama; in fact, it seems as though Erdogan can do no wrong in Obama’s eyes. This is the most likely reason that US support towards the Kurds is negligible. Earlier this month, Erdogan claimed that Turkey discovered the Americas before Columbus – ah yes, this must have been the the "Emperor’s new mission" which took place shortly after he received his new clothes!)

"If you don’t support gay marriage, then get out of my class" – Cheryl Abbate, professor of ethics at Marquette Catholic University, Milwaukee. (Throughout the 20th century the Church (in the broadest possible sense) exhibited greater and greater acceptance, tolerance and yes, even love, towards those practicing homosexual lifestyles. But, the intensely pro-gay agenda which has swept the West over the past five years and of which Barack Obama is a self-proclaimed "champion" is, in my view, not simply about campaigning for equal rights or social acceptance, it seems just as much (some might say more) to do with punishing those who do not celebrate and promote homosexuality. I could be wrong but this is the impression vast tracks of the homosexual lobby are giving)
