Most Advent calendars are about receiving little gifts; this idea is about giving instead.

The group Solidarité SDF Mons, a Belgian association offering support to the homeless, recently shared an image depicting a Reverse Advent Calendar. Since the image was posted, it has been shared widely on social media.

Here are the steps for making your Reverse Advent Calendar:

  1. Get a sturdy box or bag.
  2. Add an item to your box each day. Items could include personal hygiene products, canned goods, socks, undergarments, hats, scarves, gloves, books, snacks, etc.
  3. Wrap the box and offer it to a person in need.

The Reverse Advent Calendar campaign was launched in 2016 and achieved much success in its first year. This year, more organizations are collecting boxes for distribution among the homeless in their areas. Why not introduce the Reverse Advent Calendar in your community?
