It’s not enough for us to be ourselves; we must seek to be the best possible version of ourselves, achieving an internal balance that is contagious, a profound state of peace that allows us to use our abilities to the maximum. These 12 habits will assist you in being the best version of yourself.

Be authentic

While it can be beneficial to adapt to your environment in some situations, changing your personality to suit the situation impedes your growth and maturity. If you hide behind a mask, you will never be able to share everything you have to give. When we are authentic, we are more comfortable, secure, and respected.

Help other people

When someone needs your help, be compassionate and give them a hand, whenever possible. If you cannot help them, connect them with someone who can. Daily life is full of opportunities to do this. If you do someone a favor, don’t hold it over their head, and don’t expect something in return. Do what is right, because it is right, and that’s it.

Earn your way

Work hard and win the respect of the people around you, walking your path without stepping on anyone else. Don’t expect to receive anything without earning it. Adversity and sacrifice will make aspects of your personality shine that you might not have discovered otherwise, and will give you a feeling of achievement and self-improvement that will surprise you.

Be physically active

Try to incorporate movement into your daily life: walk to work, take the stairs instead of the elevator, stand up from your seat every half hour, and make plans to do more physically demanding activities with your friends. This will strengthen your body and will make it possible for you to live more intensely.

Do everything with love

The love we put into our actions is what gives true meaning to what we do. If we do them with love, the smallest of our actions can become great. Love always bears fruit and strengthens us internally.

Be honest

There are also times when it is better to keep your mouth shut, but when it’s time to speak out, be honest. By being truthful, we defend what is right and reject what is wrong. Avoid getting involved with lies; one lie tends to lead to another and trap us in a web that it’s hard to escape.

Respect your beliefs

Being faithful to what you believe is crucial. When you act in line with your beliefs, regardless of the outcome, you will feel proud of yourself for having been faithful and coherent.

Accept your defects

We all have them, without exception. It’s always important to be humble so that we can recognize where we can change and how we can improve upon our weaknesses and defects. Humility is the first step on the path to learning and growing.

Never humiliate others

If someone does something shameful or embarrassing, resist the temptation to say something that could hurt them, no matter how smart or fair it might appear. People might laugh because what you said was funny at that moment, but after reflecting about it, they will think less of you.

Meditate

Begin and end each day with a few minutes of introspection. Think of those moments as a gift to yourself, that will allow you to silence the constant mental noise of the day and anchor you in the present, the only moment you can really take advantage of.

Live your passions

When you really enjoy an activity, you lose the sense of time. Try to experience that sensation more often by doing activities that you love. They are one of the  greatest sources of motivation and creativity.

Connect with the people you love

Invest quality time in quality relationships. Establishing strong interpersonal relationships is comforting, it opens our mind, and it increases our life expectancy.
