Since taking the step to leave Scientology in 2013, Leah Remini has been very vocal about her experience in the organization. But a few recent tweets from the actress have provided a little more insight into how she's doing in her new life as a practicing Catholic.
The mom of one shared with her Twitter followers that as a Scientologist (her mother joined the cult when she was 8 years old) she only managed to reach a level of education comparable to that of an 8th grader. However, she's been busy studying at NYU and just took her final exams.
The tweet was met with lots of encouraging comments, and thanks from those she's inspired, such as this one tweet:
"U are an answer to my prayer! I've wanted 2 go 2 law school since age 14 but parents didn't approve. Now @ 57 the thought is now boiling in me but I think "I'm too old to go to law school." But I feel driven that direction so I prayed a day ago 4 an answer if I was 2 old. Thank u!"
In a more disturbing tweet, the 51-year-old star also shared what others have alleged about the way Scientology has treated women and unborn children throughout its history:
In the thread that followed, Remini further explained:
"If a woman in Scientology's workforce, the Sea Organization, doesn't have an abortion, they will be kicked out and declared a suppressive person. If they don't abort, they will lose everything they've ever known in their life, including their family."
Considering the judicial decisions being made in the U.S at the moment concerning Roe vs.Wade, her comments seem particularly pertinent.
